Terms and conditions
How does the Child Sponsorship pack work?
Completing the reply form and returning it to us brings the child pictured in the pack onto our sponsorship scheme. (If the child has become sponsored before you return the form, we will offer you another child.)
Confirmation of sponsorship will be sent by email.
If you decide not to sponsor the child, you need do nothing. The pack will be reprinted and offered to another potential sponsor.
How much of my £19.00 a month actually gets to the child?
74p of every pound of your sponsorship goes to care for the child:
- school fees, school meals, medical insurance, school uniform, shoes, additional food, books and pens etc.
16p goes to improve communities and help the poor:
- food for starving people, bedding and mattresses, clean water installations, emergency relief.
10p goes on administration:
- sending you letters from your child, keeping you informed, answering your questions, accounting, complying with charity law, bank charges, communications with Africa, etc.
Where sponsors give more than £19.00 a month, the surplus gift is designated for our general purposes.
In taking out Sponsorship you agree to these terms and conditions. These conditions may change from time to time at the discretion of the Trustees. The current terms and conditions can be found on our website. RSVP treats all details you give us in the strictest confidence. We do not share or sell our mailing list with any other organisation. We will send you information about our other activities occasionally by email.
Sometimes a sponsor wants to send an additional gift at Christmas or on a birthday.
If you wish to send a gift of money, (suggested limit, £25 per child, so we don’t create dependency) please send a cheque payable to ‘RSVP Trust’ and write your sponsorship reference number on the back of the cheque. Please allow plenty of time (up to 5 weeks) for your extra gift to reach the child.
Can I write to my child?
Yes. They will love to receive a letter from you. A photo of you will be treasured as well. Please read instructions for writing to you child below. You may write to your sponsored child. All letters to your sponsored child must be sent direct to our Rwanda Office. If you send them to the UK office, we will return them to you.
You should address them as follows:
CHILD REFERENCE NUMBER,
The RSVP Trust
c/o ANLM, B P 3351
Please note that all letters to children sent to the UK office will be returned to the sponsor to resend as directed above.
Please do not include your address or phone or number in correspondence to your sponsored child.
Please do not send packages to your sponsored child. Many packages go missing in the post and our staff are charged unto £10 per item to collect from the post office.
It is far better to choose a gift from our range of gifts that can be bought for the child in Rwanda.
Monetary gifts (ie: cheques) must be sent through the UK office - Please write your child reference number on the back of the cheque, payable to: ‘RSVP Trust’.
If you make a direct bank transfer for a gift, please email us the date and amount and the child reference number so we can find it in our accounts.
Please note: it usually takes between 1 to 6 weeks for the gift to reach your child
The child or their family is not given cash but tells our worker what gift they would like. This is then purchased on their behalf. This avoids problems where there may be alcoholism or other problems in the family. We are not able to specify a particular item from the UK as the child and their family will know best what is needed.
If you think that a monetary gift has not reached your child, please contact us at the UK office. We have very detailed records of what was sent, when and to whom. In Africa detailed records are also kept and we are normally able to trace all gifts successfully.
In the unlikely event that a gift was not sent by us, it will be listed as designated for your child and will never be used for other purposes. It will normally be sent in the following month.
Please do not send a gift for your sponsored child before receiving confirmation of sponsorship, as this will lead to confusion in the system.
Emergencies: In case of war, disaster, civil unrest or other severe situations as determined by us, The RSVP Trust reserves the right to use your whole sponsorship in the best interests of the child or, in the absence of your child, other children in similar circumstances, to alleviate poverty and distress. In these cases, you will be informed of our actions by email.
Queries. If you have any questions about sponsorship, please contact us and include your child reference number. We prefer to do things by email so we have a written record of your query, but you can also contact us via Twiiter @RSVPTrust or phone us on 01449 613453. We will do our best to resolve any problems. Normally the office is open Tuesday - Thursday during term time between 9.30am and 2.30pm. An answer phone is available when the office is not manned.
